Linda Calvert Jacobson grew up in South Texas where wildflowers bloom profusely from Spring through early Summer. This annual color explosion is her inspiration. A native of Floresville, Texas, she has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil and painting since the age 14. Linda credits her parents with encouraging her as a child to paint and study art, which has become a life-long passion.
From her home in the Texas Hill Country in 2003, Linda began developing a new style of painting wildflowers, a contemporary style that is uniquely her own. When she started selling her original paintings and offering her images for licensing, she quickly discovered that her wildflowers could transcend geographic and cultural boundaries, appealing to floral, nature and art lovers on an international level.
Today, hundreds of Linda’s original wildflower paintings are in private collections in the U.S. and around the world. They have been exhibited in Texas, Vermont, Arizona, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, New Mexico and New York. She is currently represented by Robert Paul Galleries in historic Stowe, Vermont, a mountain resort village attracting visitors from around the world; Longcoat Fine Art in Ruidoso, New Mexico; Grand Teton Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Wild Holly Gallery, Arizona's Most Eclectic Gallery, in Carefree, AZ, and Paint Box SoHo, a boutique gallery located in Manhattan's famous arts district. In addition, her wildflower art has frequently been on display at the renowned Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas.
Linda’s wildflowers have been featured on a line of limited-edition watches marketed in the U.K. and Germany, and on greeting cards sold in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K.
ABOUT LINDA’S WILDFLOWER ART
Linda’s bold use of vivid colors captures the essence of wildflowers, whether in their natural setting or as bouquets picked for your enjoyment. In her “meadows” series, you can almost feel the breeze gently swaying the tall blooms nestled in the grass and smell the medley of fragrances as they linger, cleansing your soul. When you look into one of Linda’s “bouquets and vases” paintings, you can get lost in the moment of how you might arrange the freshly picked bouquet of blooms from the artist’s personal wildflower garden. All of her paintings pull us into the spirit of springtime and let us emotionally recharge our batteries. This is the kind of work that gets people excited and looking forward to Spring’s revitalizing power. Linda lets us have this energy boost anytime we need it. By soaking up the intoxicating colors, we immerse ourselves in her visions. We want to reach out and touch the wildflowers. We are renewed. We are refreshed. We are ready to tackle the rest of our day.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
“As a child growing up on a family farm in rural Texas, I developed a deep and profound love for nature and, especially, for wildflowers. That experience is still part of who I am today and is my inspiration. As an artist, I have chosen to express my soul through interpretive, colorful wildflower paintings that allow the viewer to be an integral part of the experience. By using a somewhat abstract technique, I invite the person looking at my artwork to delve deeper into themselves as well as the paintings, which creates an opportunity for the viewer to personalize the vision seen and emotions felt. I look to the future with the hope of encouraging the simple joy I see in wildflowers for generations to come. I have often been told that my paintings are ‘happy.’ If my art brings joy to someone’s heart and spirit, what more could I ask for?”
