Chris Greene
Chris Greene is a pioneer in the medium of automobile paint on aluminum, spending the last 10 years perfecting his method. The illusion of a deep 3D appearance is accomplished by using light reflection to bring out not only the dramatic depth, but also a very vibrant range of color.
Greene, a Las Vegas native, took his skills in the paint booth and applied them in the studio to create masterpieces. His media is aluminum canvas folded and cleanly welded at the seams. All of his pieces incorporate multiple layers of automotive candy paint and clear coats. During his time as an automobile painter, he’s worked with celebrities including, Liberace, Aaron Spelling and Baron Hilton. Greene’s custom paint job for Isuzu and Barefoot Surf Gear was featured in 4-wheeler and Off Roader magazines.
“Suffering from burn out, I decided to go back to college and study something new. So I started studying advertising design at C.S.N. here in Las Vegas, during this time, I had taken some art classes to try and improve my skill, due to the fact I had little of knowledge in art. One day in a color theory class, I did a project using the automotive paint on aluminum, and my professor told me that this is what I would be doing from now on, since no one was doing it yet. So for the last ten years or so, I have been playing with this technique, and I have managed to bring these from a flat 2D painting to the illusion of a very deep 3D appearance, which is accomplished by using light reflection to bring out not only the dramatic depth, but also a very vibrant range of color. Although I have ended up basically doing the very thing I tried to get away from, I really enjoy the creativity of fine art as opposed to the automobiles. I am now being tested creatively on a daily basis again and could not be happier! "
